We knew it was coming. It’s not as if Matlock has been subtle about how many close calls Matty has had. Eventually, her luck was going to run out.
It’s just crazy to think that the jig might be up after all of Matty, Edwin, and Alfie’s hard work. Don’t tell me Matty kidnapping a dog was all for nothing.
However, is anyone else concerned about how far Miss Matty Matlock is willing to go? She had a good grasp of things in the beginning, but the plan has clearly spiraled.

Then again, it’s very easy for details to fall through the cracks. For instance, it did not register in my head that the Welbrexa case happened so long ago. Fourteen years, to be specific.
Matty’s Constant Questioning of Everyone’s Speed to Do the Right Thing Was a Lot More Telling of Her Own Character
To be fair, the show kept Matty’s past as a mother purposefully vague at the start of the show, painting her as a mom out to avenge the loss of her daughter.
From there, it was one exciting twist after another as Matty inched her way to the truth.
However, I spent so many episodes assuming the Welbrexa coverup was only a handful of years ago that it wasn’t until I heard “fourteen years ago” that it finally registered.
Then again, there have been a lot of timelines to keep track of, and I’m sure I’m not the only viewer who mixed the timeline for Julian’s affair with the one for when the Welbrexa case.

Now that it’s been over a decade, I can’t help but wonder why Matty (Kathy Bates) waited so long to do something.
I know the Redditor’s post lit a fire under her to infiltrate Jacobson Moore, but why is this the first time she’s trying to do anything?
It seems like she was projecting her own issues on this episode. Poor Isabella got the blunt end of Matty’s guilt. However, Miss Matlock has undoubtedly made up for lost time.
Miss Matlock Tortured Mrs. B When She Really Should Have Been Thanking Her Since This Show Wouldn’t Exist Without Her Intel
Speaking of the Redditor a moment ago, poor Mrs. B was being put through the wringer, and Matty was having far too much fun torturing her.
You know, despite my article contemplating Matty as the possible real villain of Matlock, I must admit I was cracking up at Patricia Belcher’s character.

Matty drove that woman to the end of her rope and giggled her way through the whole thing. To be honest, that dog was so damn cute, I probably would have stolen it myself.
It seems pretty mean from an outside perspective when you consider that Matty made a major breakthrough in her mission because of Mrs. B. And her reward was being tortured? That’s not right.
Matty wouldn’t have been led to look for the key card logs if it wasn’t for Mrs. B. Also, I have to throw this out there: One viewer pointed out a very specific detail about the plot that seemed odd.
Why would you need a key card to go into a public restroom? I could understand if it was in an area of the building where anyone off the street could walk right in, but it was many floors up in a clear work area.
I’m sure there are a million ways from Sunday to explain it away, but looking at it now, the writers wanted a clear-cut way to make it look like Olympia (Skye P. Marshall) was the Welbrexa culprit.
With all this back and forth from the suspects, it’s no wonder Matty has slowly become more unhinged with every episode.

On The Surface, Matlock Seems to Have a Very Cut-And-Dry Premise, But This Little Broadcast Show Is Much Deeper Than Meets the Eye
You know what I’m talking about, right? With every installment in the story, Matty stretches herself thinner while juggling more clues and information.
On the surface, CBS‘s Matlock seems like a pretty straightforward show about a woman who tricks her way into an elite law firm where shenanigans ensue due to her presence.
With Kathy Bates at the helm, this series is so much more than that. Really, Matlock is a show about a woman who must overcome her grief and guilt.
Currently, Matty is trying as hard as possible to find the person who hid the Welbrexa documents so she doesn’t have to blame herself.
Everything we have learned about Matty and Ellie’s relationship points to Matty choosing her career over being a present mother.

It’s as if her motherly instincts only kicked in when Alfie came along. In all fairness, the love between grandparents and grandchildren is genuinely unique.
While taking down an elite law firm under a fake name with the help of her elderly husband and pre-teen grandson, Matty is being bombarded with all her repressed guilt and shame.
The only light she’s maintained throughout this ordeal has been the unexpected but welcomed friendship she formed with Olympia. Sadly, it might be the end of the road for them.
Before We All Think We Know What Is About to Happen with Matty and Olympia, Let’s Remind Ourselves That Nothing on Matlock Is Ever as It Seems
We always knew someone was going to catch on to Matty eventually. I just thought it would be Sarah (Leah Lewis) and Billy (David Del Rio), the other members of “Team You Three.”
However, before we jump to conclusions, let’s remember that the bread and butter of a show like Matlock is that things never work out the way you think they will.

Sure, Olympia confronted Matty about her lies, but which lies, specifically, did Olympia investigate about Matty?
First, there was the spy pen. That alone should have Olympia fuming because Matty had her believing that Julian (Jason Ritter) planted it in her office.
Then there was Alfie’s wallet that revealed Matty spends a great deal of time living in Westchester.
Now, those can both be explained away if Matty is quick and clever enough on her feet. She’d lose her job and her friend, but at least Matty’s cover wouldn’t be blown.
However, the last lie was the final nail in the coffin. Olympia obtained the license plate number of Matty’s driver’s car and its associated info.
It looks like the end of the road, right? Wrong. That’s a private car company, and they likely have a strict policy about client confidentiality.

Olympia may be on to something, but Matty can easily explain away every little thing. Hell, she probably already has contingency plans in place that we haven’t seen on screen yet.
Hopefully, it all works out because Matty just got confirmation that Olympia couldn’t be the Welbrexa culprit, and the septuagenarian was over the moon with joy.
Still, it would be a boon for Matty if she could explain everything to Olympia and bring her in on the mission.
It’s possible now that Matty knows for sure that Mrs. Lawrence was in court when the Welbrexa documents were taken.
We’re in the final countdown now, and the creator of this CBS series has already said that everything will be revealed by the end of Matlock Season 1.

So, buckle up and get ready for an intense ride to the Matlock Season 1 finale, but remember that almost nothing is ever as it seems.
Do you think the jig is up for Matty?
Do you think the Welbrexa culprit is Julian, or could it be someone else from the suspect list?
